Shed

The desire for dining outdoors has become an increasingly popular request. Situated in the heart of Montana’s exclusive Paws Up resort we sought to design two outdoor dining pavilions called “shed” that would serve as a casual dining BBQ pavilions for the resort guests. An existing shed on the project site served as inspiration for the design.

We were inspired by its elemental gabled roof form and the way the wood slats established a design language through such simple means. Although using humble materials we wanted to design an outdoor structure that felt purposeful and considered.

For shed, we extruded the gable shape and mirrored the structure in the landscape. Two 2,000-square-foot outdoor dining pavilions—one that houses the large BBQ grill and the other a bar—are positioned in the field to frame view of the roaming buffalo. It’s the perfect spot for an outdoor gathering for the resort guests. The slatted structure provides coverage from the elements but allows one to see out into the landscape
