Vista '63

Architect Ken Kohler designed Vista '63 Case Study house as the star attraction of the 1963 Seattle Post Intelligencer Home Show, which took place in the Seattle Center Coliseum (Now Climate Pledge Area) in the spring of 1963. The home was originally prefabricated then assembled inside the building as a Case Study home for the Seattle Home Show in 1963.Following the Home Show, the massive A-framed building was disassembled and moved to the shores of Lake Washington – a 10,000-square-foot lot as the home for the architect’s young family. The space-age structure has a starship kite-shaped floor plan boasting no 90 degree corners and almost 4,000 square feet in size. The iconic A-frame peak (standing 42 feet to the top) was positioned in its permanent new location to point directly at Mt.Rainier. It’s efficient voyage to its present location near Lake Washington, represents the victory of the vision of Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, and others.

Featured as Home of the Week – in Seattle Magazine – the space-age structure remodel approach by Mutuus is to transport the building into the future again from the 1963 to 2023.
